Welcome,
As part of our school day, we begin each day by reciting our school's mission: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School makes Jesus Christ known and loved through living our sacramental way of life in partnership with families and fostered in Spirituality, Excellence, Academics and Service; followed with Morning Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. We say our prayers before and after lunch. We end each day with prayer.
The first graders will learn the following under the Minnesota State Academic Standards guidelines:
READING:
Children are given direct and explicit instruction in the 5 areas of reading Instruction:
Direct and explicit instruction to help children develop the ability to express ideas effectively and legibly in complete sentences/simple paragraphs (Types of), while accurately applying basic grammar skills and proper spelling.
MATH:
Number concepts and an algebraic approach to word problems are the two main related core concepts taught. Children learn to find numbers embedded within single-digit numbers, as well as finding the tens and ones in multi-digit numbers. They learn to solve and construct story problems and demonstrate reasoning and proof with their own math pictorial drawings. Concepts and skills in algebra, geometry, measurement, and graphing are explicitly taught along with these two core concepts.
RELIGION:
